Andrew Moore Biography American photographer Andrew Moore has garnered widespread recognition for his captivating photographic series. Spanning various locales and themes, Moore’s work masterfully captures the passage of time on both natural landscapes and built environments. Andrew Moore has a portfolio that includes extensive projects in Cuba, Russia, Bosnia, Times Square, Detroit, the High Plains, the American South, and, most recently, the Hudson Valley. Andrew Moore was born in 1957 in Old Greenwich, CT. He pursued his education at Princeton University with a focus on photography. After finishing school in 1979, Moore moved to New Orleans, where he focused his camera on the disappearing industries of the city, such as broom factories and coffin carpentry shops. Andrew Moore ’s artistic contributions extend beyond his photography. His notable publications include Blue Alabama, featuring a preface by Imani Perry, and a story by Madison Smartt Bell, released in 2019. His previous works, such as Dirt Meridian, accompanied by a preface from Kent Haruf, have been showcased in prestigious venues like the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. Additionally, Andrew Moore has a documentary feature film, How to Draw a Bunny, that explores the life of Ray Johnson, which premiered at the 2002 Sundance Festival, where it earned a Special Jury prize. Andrew Moore ’s other books include: Inside Havana (2002), Governors Island (2004) and Russia, Beyond Utopia (2005) and Cuba (2012). Additionally, Andrew Moore photographs have appeared in Art in America, Artnews, The Bitter Southerner, Harpers, National Geographic, New York Review of Books, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, TIME, Vogue, Wired, and World of Interiors. Andrew Moore’ s photographs grace the collections of esteemed institutions worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the National Gallery of Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery. His works have also found homes in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Library of Congress. Notable exhibitions of his work have been held at the Akron Museum of Art, the Queens Museum of Art, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, and the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. Moreover, Moore’s photography has been featured in various publications such as Art in America, National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine, and Vogue.
